A poem by Kevin Powers

Mother earth wrapped me up like a baby And planted me in the ground

A seed was watered

With sweet tears made of honey

Father sky came for the harvest And my soul ascended

To mountain tops made of light

I looked down in a canyon

Draped in red and orange stripes

And saw ancient people

Working with clay

They purged the impurities

From the mud with fire

Smoke filled the air

Drums shook the ether And behold

Something beautiful

Was created

Then the angels carried me home

And at last I was free

I sing in the sun I bathe in its glory
